ob Title: Gait Entertainment & Events Manager

Salary: Minimum of $250 weekly, with the possibility of performance-based pay and adjustment per nights open.

Expected Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week

Term of Employment: August 2024-April, 30 2025 with some training in April 2024

Job Summary: The Gait Entertainment and Events Manager (GEEM) is a hired member of the Bishop’s University Students’ Representative Council (BUSRC). They will be responsible for organizing and marketing events in the Gait that coincide with the values and vision of the SRC and for publicizing these events on social media. The GEEM is expected to be mindful of the inclusivity, accessibility and equity of each event planned. The Gait Entertainment & Events Manager reports directly to the Manager of Operations and Services and works closely with the Gait Operations Manager.

Gait Entertainment & Events Manager is responsible for managing the Gait social media channels (Facebook, Instagram) to create high engagement within the student population on a regular basis. They are responsible for ensuring the proper functioning of the Gait, and for managing the bartenders and floor staff during their shifts as manager on duty.

Requirements:

  • Must be a current student at Bishop’s University, enrolled for the 2024-2025 academic term.
  • Must not be employed by one of The Gait’s suppliers or any other business partner for the duration of the employment term
  • Must be in good academic standing and have security clearance from the University
  • Must be willing to put their Gait SRC responsibilities as their highest non-academic priority

Nature of Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for supervising staff during operating hours.
  • Plans, schedules, and implements Gait theme nights, special events, and promotions and assists with planning drink specials.
  • Coordinates DJs and bands for events.
  • Coordinates the program for BUSRC Extra groups to hold fundraisers in the Gait, and works closely with these clubs and associations to schedule and carry out successful fundraising events.
  • Assists BUSRC Extra groups and external groups with the planning, marketing and execution of their events at The Gait.
  • Actively searches for external clients for The Gait, and promotes The Gait as an ideal venue for events to the Bishop’s and Sherbrooke communities.
  • Responsible for managing the Gait social media channels (Facebook, Instagram) to create high engagement within the student population on a regular basis.
  • Creates end-of-semester analytic reports on performance of Gait social media platforms.
  • Ensures sound and lighting equipment remains in proper order, and recommends replacements and/or equipment upgrades as needed.
  • Attends weekly Gait meetings with management team and security
  • Member of event committees (Fall Fest, Winterfest, etc.)
  • DJ liaison and ticket sales during major events at the Gait as well as outdoor events hosted by the SRC, including, but not limited to Convocation, Homecoming, Gait Gatsby, Winterfest.
  • Works with the Gait Operations Manager to publish relevant photos, videos and other media (links) to social media outlets on a regular basis in order to drive community engagement.
  • Responsible for ensuring the successful functioning of coat check.
  • Ensure bar equipment remains in proper order, by replacing and/or upgrading equipment as needed.
  • Monitor the cleanliness of the Gait and distribution of alcohol, to ensure that The Gait maintains the standards of the liquor license provided by the Régie des Alcools and the standards of the Bishop’s University Alcohol Policy.
  • Assist the Manager of Operations, as needed, with negotiations and discussions that occur with various stakeholders of The Gait.
  • Member of the University’s Alcohol Concerns Committee.
  • Assist external groups with the planning and execution of their events at The Gait.
  • Assist the Manager of Operations with hiring new staff.
  • Assist the BUSRC, from time to time, with the management of social events involving liquor.
  • Assist with planning bar operations at Winterfest.

Experience (candidates are expected to possess some but not all this experience)

  • Experience managing people.
  • Experience in event management and/or coordination
  • Involvement in various extracurricular activities at Bishop’s
  • Sales experience

Recommended Knowledge

  • Knowledge of restaurant, club, and bar atmospheres.
  • Knowledge of alcoholic beverages and drink recipes
  • Knowledge of sound equipment.
  • Knowledge of marketing, graphic design, or social media
  • Good business acumen
